Personality: Extremely quiet and very distant; he day dreams nearly 24/7, which makes him really easy to sneak up on and surprise. He’s rather unemotional due to his past and prefers to be alone. Mint is pretty quirky and collects strange things that he finds lying on the ground because it reminds him of himself. He’s extremely blunt; he doesn’t like to waste his breath so when he has to talk, he states what he has to say in as few words as he can. Although he’s very distant, if someone manages to warm up to him (he’d really make you work for it), he can act childish and silly like when he lived with his first caretaker. He’s a very clean bird, often cleaning when there’s really nothing to clean just to give himself something to do; he can’t sit for long or it makes him finicky and nervous. When his hair is styled differently, he almost takes on a new personality; it gives him more confidence in most cases and helps subdue his avoidant personality. He’s very obedient; if it's for business he’d do whatever the person asks without question, but if something's for leisurely purposes he'd make the person work to convince him to do what they're asking. Mint doesn't have a lot of self worth; he thinks of himself as an object that others use, so when he's complimented, or when there's sweet talk involved, he gets embarrassed and blushes a lot.

History: Minty was bred and born in a small pet shop that raised and sold exotic birds and other animals in the Northern United States, but he was there for only a short while before Shima Tendo bought him and took him home. He was a loving owner and gave Mint whatever he wanted and often used him as a doll, dressing him up and doing his hair then taking him to the small salon that he owned to show his little beloved bird off. When Mint was at home, he’d enjoy doing things like playing video games, doing Shima’s hair for him, and sleeping in cozy warm places with his guardian.

He lived happily with Shima for years, but as he grew older he couldn’t help but notice how lonely his caretaker was, even with him there, so being the lovebird he is, he knew exactly what Shima needed, and that was a companion. He flirted with many men, showing off to get attention then directing them back to Shima, whom at the time was unbeknownst to the bird’s plan. After awhile, Shima took notice and was peeved, but Mint’s extra hard work at attracting customers, and a partner for Shima, paid off. One of the regulars finally confessed his love for Shima and Mint was thrilled, until he discovered that he wasn’t going to get nearly as much attention as he once had. He was often left home alone while the adults went out, so he learned how to cook and clean, after many trials and errors, and would be praised when Shima returned. Mint learned to crave attention and started doing whatever he could do to get it; unfortunately for him, Shima’s new lover was extremely annoyed by Mint’s bouts of temper tantrums and eventually threatened that if Mint didn’t go then he would. The lovebird was sold online shortly after.

Mint was unknowingly sold to an illegal ring of exotic bird traders whom would often steal birds right out of their natural habitats and sport them in auctions. He was completely and utterly devastated by what had occurred, and in a state of shock; he often had to be force-fed just to keep him going, plus the constant travel made him sick due to the fact that when he lived with Shima they walked everywhere and didn’t even own a car. His vegetable-like state made him undesirable, and therefore unsaleable despite his beautiful coloring. This went on for months until they finally decided to cut their losses and sell him for cheap.

His buyer was cruel and he would often punished Mint until he learned that it was best to do as one asks without questioning it; his training made him complaisant and spineless, but he felt hollow anyway so he didn’t mind it. Although, while the training was still going on, he was so stressed that he started pulling his feathers out, thinking they were the reason he was in this mess. Most did eventually grow back, but by the time they did he was old enough to be put on the more sensual side of the market. Being a lovebird caused many to become interested in him, even though at the time he was a virgin, and he ended up being sold for a very high price to an erotic club.

At the club, Mint learned very quickly that he was just a scapegoat for others’ sexual frustrations, and, long story short, he was sexually abused. His emotional and mental psyche was deteriorating, having breakdowns nearly every day until he was eventually unusable, and that’s when he was sold yet again. Being in this situation again was more than he could bear and so in an attempt to protect himself from being hurt again, he sworn off emotions. He arrived on the island to do his job and that was that.
